I seem to remember getting a lot of “what on earth is he out in the rain photographing” looks by the occasional car that passed. Sometimes I wondered myself, although not for long. What’s not to see? Cobblestones, old world france, water reflections,……all great ingredients for HDR photography.
I took a few extra steps on this one. I actually processed 9 bracket HDR sequence with Photomatix 3 different times. One as a base image, one to bring out a little more color in the green and blue windows and reflections, and one to “grunge up” the old world arches and architectural details in the cool little scene. I then stacked them as layers in Photoshop CS4 and “painted” in the layer details that I wanted to see in the final image. I did this with layer masks so I could undo as needed.
I don’t often talk about that part of the process much, but have been asked a bit lately to share the processes. As I’ve said before, I plan on creating a few little tips and tricks videos in the future. Is there anything in particular you might like to see? Leave a comment and I’ll do my best!
