“We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.” – Mother Teresa
I stumbled upon this little cave of sorts as I danced between the raindrops on an early morning near Poipu Beach in Kauai. Seems a little larger in this image, but trust me…thats just the lens. To get this, I was hunched over quite a bit in what appeared to be a favorite hangout for a few sea birds. Gulls I guess. The foot prints in there were huge though. I felt a little like I was intruding actually. After taking cover for a little while and just as I started to feel like they just might be watching me in some sort of a territorial way, the sky started to open up just as I was able to capture this. Sometimes you just have to wait for it!
I had a little fun processing this one. First off, I had a few drops of rain as well as a little fog action happening on the o so huge and bulbous Nikon 14-24 lense. Seems that no matter what I did, I couldn’t keep that thing dry. Crazy Hawaiian weather I guess.
I also (for those photogs that read this blog) decided to process this one with a couple of different color balance settings each used for different parts in the image. I was then able to really pull in the color that I wanted into the foreground rocks, ocean waves, and that beautiful sky. As I have mentioned before, the trip out there is just the beginning for me….the rest of the magic is in post. In this case, its out of the rain, away from those scary seagulls (did you ever see one up close?….see the video below), and with a little candle light
