Living like a King in France at the Clos d’ Amboise

“To awaken alone in a strange town is one of the pleasantest sensations in the world.” – Freya Stark

As is often the case when traveling, it can be a crap shoot. Although you can do ALOT of preplanning online now a days, our varied levels of budget, taste, adventure, comfort, style, and of course the acceptance of the subtle nuances of a place means that the reviews are at best a starting point. Its obviously best to find a source that you resonate with, and for me, I can usually count on Rick Steves. What a score this place was! Thanks Rick 🙂

Just a short hop over the bridge from the train station into the cute little town of Amboise, our cute little Chateau awaited us. Not exactly sure if I can call it a Chateau, as I am not really sure what the actual definition is, but it kinda felt like our castle for the few days we were there! Hotel Clos’ de Amboise to be exact. Check out a link to the place here!

Although this place had about 8 or so rooms (I think), we at times felt like we had the place to ourselves. Its a great place to home base yourself when exploring the Loire Valley wether traveling by car or train …. Amboise that is. There are quite a few markets, restaurants, a couple of launderettes, and an amazing Chateau on the rivers edge as well! Again, a great place to start to explore from…and there is lots to see. My favorite part….the hot air balloon ride…..a MUST!

So I thought I should also share this version above with you too. Created with the amazing plugins of Topaz. Sitting in that beautiful courtyard, it was hard NOT to feel a little creative 🙂

I HIGHLY recommend this little gem if you find yourself exploring the region. Enjoy a nice glass of red on that little patio near the bar. I did….a couple of times!
