Another weekend – another beautiful wedding

“My Greatest wish for the two of you is that through the years your love for each other will so deepen and grow, that years from now you will look back on this day, your wedding day, as the day you loved each other the least.” – Wedding Toast, to the Bride and Groom – Anonymous

I’ve taken a new found liking to the weddings we have been lighting recently. First off, 3 weekends in a row…at the same venue as well. Kinda rare for us as we tend to run the full gamete of events from fundraisers, parties, and corporate meetings. But like I said, these are kinda special to be a part of. Sure, I was part of the 50% failure club, but I think I played a good game. We can’t all make it to the finals ya know. You can stay friends though..but wait a minute, I’m getting WAY off track here!

So what have I seen in these special events recently that I might have overlooked before? That’s easy, its the emotion and the sincere love and happiness in the room. Strange that I overlooked that for so many years. Having illuminated parties and events for the past 25 years, my focus has always been the light. What gets seen, what doesn’t. What gets highlighted, what doesn’t. Color, texture, detail, safety, budget….there is alot to focus on, but when all of the work has been finished and the guests are entering the magical space we have helped create, the focus for me is now on them. The reactions, the smiles, and appreciation. Makes all the other nonsense worth the effort. I have been asked many times “Why do you working the show so much, isn’t it just work?” Well, without a passion for what I do, that might very well be the case. Until then, what time does the band start?
