Exploring the many details at the Bantry House

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.” – Helen Keller

Alright, the quote has perhaps nothing at all to do with the image, but I like it. I was inspired to post it after I watched this video.

About this time of the year, when the shackles of the event lighting world I play in are somewhat loosened, I start to look outwards into the world to see what new sites and sounds are there to stimulate me.

In this case, it was Ireland that was calling my name. The Bantry House was a nice sort of getaway while exploring the green island. Sort of a part bed and breakfast, part quiet retreat, part Shining Hotel kinda place. I’ve always appreciated the beauty of decay, and the exterior grounds of this place seemed to be a little of just that. Just the right amount of texture, color, and detail for a cool HDR setup at the top of the garden stairs!

On a slightly deeper note, I often wonder what the world would be like if more people decided to see it. Imagine a constraint free opportunity to travel, explore, and learn about the rest of the people that share this special planet with you. Would you take advantage of that? Where would you go?

If travel were easier for everyone and we all actually did it, would it perhaps break down the ignorance and lack of acceptance for people that are a little foreign to you? In my opinion, its rare that 2 people, regardless of their background, would ever take up arms against each other based solely on that background. Seems like its the most ignorant that find the most reasons to fight….hiding behind a shield of government, religion, or economic ideals. Take 2 people, from any 2 groups of fighting tribes in the world, and strip them of outside influence. place them in the same room, and its just 2 people, most likely 2 people that would learn to get along. I could be wrong, but I hope not. Of course, this utopian view of our earth might have a chance to germinate, but I personally have confidence in mankind and its evolution.

What are your thoughts?

Interesting post. Many years ago when there was a war in all but name happening in Northern Ireland (a long way from beautiful Bantry!) I knew two guys in London who were firm friends. Each came from a different side of the sectarian divide and would not have associated with each other when living in NI but in London they met through their work and got on very well.
Great image from a beautiful location!ReplyCancel
