Scenes in Singapore – A collage of street images in Asia

“Travel changes you. As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life – and travel – leaves marks on you. Most of the time, those marks – on your body or on your heart – are beautiful. Often, though, they hurt.” – Anthony Bourdain

I was a little inspired from a new show that premiered tonight to dig deeper into the archives I have from Singapore. I don’t really take too much time to watch the ole’ tube, but I make the exception for great travel shows. This particular show is called The Layover staring the world renowned travel guru “Anthony Bourdain.” His first show? Singapore! And yes, it was as hot and humid as I remember…..but oh so colorful, thriving, and delicious!

As you must know by now, my usual dance with the camera finds me capturing multiple exposures, mostly with the obnoxious tripod in tow, to create HDR images. Every once in a while though, its nice to break free and just wander with a simple kit. One camera, one lense, and an open mind. Just to walk and observe….perhaps not even taking the camera to the eye for the most part, but in fact viewing the world as it unfolds around you as if the whole scene taking place in front of your eyes was from a movie…and your eyes were the movie camera. As you take your mind off of the technical aspects of photography, its amazing what you start to see!

And oh yeah….

I did work on a pretty cool HDR image of the colorful downtown scene in Singapore…..but I’ll share that with you tomorrow 🙂
