“There is such a concept of loss. Loss and how we react to loss. We think of things in a straight line: birth-life-death. That’s not really how it works. You take those ends and you bend it into a circle so it’s birth-life-death-REbirth. So you have to be prepared when you lose something – when you go through a divorce, when your mother dies, when you lose your house you have to understand that nature has it no other way. There is a rebirth. The death is painful. It doesn’t change the pain of the death. But you gotta stay awake and stay focused for what’s the rebirth that God is about to offer you.” – Will Smith, on Oprah 11/6/2008
Hey ya folks! As you know, I like to post a quote here now and then that may or may not have to do with the image. Although the above quote has virtually nothing to do with this image, it popped up in my google search for quotes about circles and the circle of life. I love it! (the quote that is)
So, what about the shot here? To be honest with you, it sat a while in the “ready to post someday” file in Lightroom till I decided to torture it a bit more. Of course, it was tortured quite a bit before I decided to tweak it further, but thats ok.
I was a bit inspired from a cool little online clip from Aaron and Avery over at PHlearn, a really cool and free online daily photoshop and photography show. Check it out if you get a chance. They are short little classes and packed with great tips!
Here is a link to the show I got the tip from: PHlearn episode on Polar Coordinates
The short and skinny on it is:
- Create an HDR image / not really necessary, its just what I did 🙂
- Resize it into a square image / remember to uncheck the constraint proportions (that might not make sense!)
- Apply a filter > distort > polar coordinates in photoshop
- refine the image as needed
- give up trying to create the image from this short list and click on the video above (LOL!)
Good luck and remember to have fun! Thats what its all about right?
